SAMAX - Infineon race
SAMAX/ Doncaster Racing notched a strong seventh-place GT finish
in Saturday's Rolex Sports Car Series race at Infineon Raceway
in Sonoma, Calif. Toronto drivers Dave Lacey and Greg Wilkins
quickly learned the challenging 2.52-mile road course through
the race weekend, posting consistently faster lap times in the
No. 17 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car.
Wilkins drove the first race stint, starting from 13th on the
GT grid. He moved up to 10th in the first 11 minutes of the two-hour
45-minute race and held the position through a fuel stop. Lacey
took over just past the one-hour mark and gained three more positions
to finish seventh. The result keeps the team seventh in series
GT championship standings, with one race remaining this season.

Dave Lacey: "Any time we come to a
facility that we haven't been to, take five seconds off our lap
times, halve our grid position to finishing position and come
out with a clean car, I think that's a pretty good deal. Mechanically,
the car was very, very strong. We didn't have a lot of time to
dial it in, so I was really happy with the result. Greg drove
a great stint, I got a great piece of equipment and we were able
to finish up in seventh overall. And we're still fourth in the
championship."
Greg Wilkins: "We ended up with a good
result. We didn't quite have the speed that we needed for this
weekend, but we ran a clean race and a good tactical race. [We
had] good pitstops, the crew worked really well and in the end,
we finished reasonably well. From a points standpoint, we ended
up giving up very few points to the guys who are just behind
us, so the last race of the season will be interesting. We'll
have to be on our game for that one, so we can hold onto our
fourth place in the championship." |
